Dr. Martez grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan as the oldest of four children. She attended Spring Hill College in Alabama with intentions of becoming a medical doctor. She diligently studied many courses in biology and chemistry, and even did a 50 hour internship at Providence Hospital observing over 30 different surgeries in the operating room. After graduating with a Biology degree, Dr. Martez decided to take a different route by attending Massage Therapy school in Boulder, Colorado. While aiming to complete a demanding two-year program (over 1000 hours), she worked full time for a division of Whole Foods Market on their research team to develop nutritional supplements. The new experience in massage therapy and nutritional supplements transformed Dr. Martez’ life into a more holistic and natural way of living. In 2000, she wanted to learn as much as she could and decided to attend Bastyr University to become a Naturopathic Doctor.
Dr. Martez chose to study at Bastyr University because of its prestigious reputation and goal to validate natural medicine with scientific research. While working as a Massage Therapist in Kirkland through her schooling, she helped many patients overcome physical ailments ranging from sore muscles to rehabilitation from car accidents. Her work as a massage therapist reinforced her decision to become a Naturopathic doctor. She understands that the way to optimum health is through natural and holistic methods.
Dr. Martez graduated in December, 2004, passed the national board exams, and received her state license in October 2005.
When she’s not busy with patients, Dr. Martez is busy with her husband, Troy, and three children, Ethan, Christian and Lourdes. She enjoys traveling, swimming, and her family!
Dr. Martez belongs to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the American Massage Therapy Association.
